A MYP Coordinator is a pedagogical leader who leads and manages the International Baccalaureate Middle Year Programme (IB MYP) segment of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- To take ownership in building the brand of the school by fulfilling the needs of all stakeholders and building the culture in line with the mission and values.
- Leading the school and its staff to achieve extremely high standards of teaching and learning, behaviour and attainment
- Creating a culture of educational excellence and embedding the ethos of a ‘learning and aspiring organization’
- Forming effective external relationships with parents, the local community, wider IB community, the IB office and other stakeholders.
- Working with other senior staff of the school and SEL to oversee the use of finance, facilities and other resources across the school
- Oversee compliance with state, national, and IB policies, success of instructional programs, and operation of all MYP activities and common school activities.

Implementation of the philosophy and the Core Values of the school and the IB | 1. The MYPC serves as the pedagogical leader responsible for all school operations by managing the policies, statutory regulations pertaining to the programme, creating and maintenance of safe learning environment and ensuring that the programme standards and practices are implemented also keeping in view the local needs and requirements building a school culture aligned to the vision, mission and core values in all aspects both administrative and academic. 2. Create and sets yearly targets (vision)that are aligned to the 5-year action plan 3. The MYPC directs and nurtures all members of the school staff for optimal performance and sees communications with all stakeholders as a way of bringing people together for a common purpose. 4. Effectively communicates to ensure that all management decisions related to all aspects of school operations are shared with all staff and reports back on the progress and effectiveness of all school operations quarterly. 5. The MYPC consolidates the annual objectives for the instructional, co-curricular, extracurricular and administrative needs and collaborates with SEL to clearly articulate the Annual Planning Cycle (APC) 6. Ensures that the school is aligned to and strives to meet all norms, standards and compliances of the affiliating board. 7. Ensure the development, review and implementation of policies and procedures to support students with special educational needs, promoting inclusion. 8. Initiates and persists, displaying sense of urgency and focus towards school development plans. |
IB Leadership | 1. Inform all relevant staff of developments and new publications from the IBO. 2. Ensure that they have online accounts with My IB. 3. Establish systems in order to implement and improve school program keeping in mind the action plan of the school 4. Ensures timely response to any communication received from the with IB offices and in turn coordinates with the IB office for any clarification if needed. 5. Circulate all relevant information received from the IBO to the relevant stakeholders 6. Ensure all regulations set by the IB concerning programs, procedures, and standards and practices are adhered to as communicated in “Principles to Practice” documents. 7. Ensure the concept of international mindedness permeates all subject areas. 8. Establish with the other programme coordinators appropriate transition between IB programs. 9. Engage in short- and long-term planning to continually strengthen the program. 10. Ensure that IB and school’s core elements are applied throughout the grades within the program. 11. Lead the authorization processes including the self-study and subsequent reviews 12. Nurture a culture of collaboration and continuous professional development of the staff. 13. Sets the frequency and rhythm of tiered collaborative meetings and the mechanism for periodic review. |
Viable Curriculum | 1. Yearly review of curriculum in school and with SEL to ensure implementation 2. Leads curriculum planning before the beginning of academic session. Reviewing to ensure that the following areas are implemented: a. All hiring’ needs are identified and processed in time for the new academic year. b. Curriculum is available to all stakeholders in time c. Workplans are ready on time d. Recording and reporting of assessment data and address any changes that need to be made. 3. People Management and Development
| 1. Planning and implementing need-based training calendar for MYPC staff 2. Ensuring fulfillment of the training needs in collaboration with SEL. 3. System to put in place to ensure that lesson observations are done as per schedule and documented with a copy in the HR files 4. To identify potential performers and strengthen the second line of leadership in consultation with the SEL, HOS & Head HR 5. Conduct professional development sessions for the team. 6. To handle grievances by the staff effectively. 7. To ensure feedback is taken from the MYP staff as a step towards staff and school development 8. Foster conflict resolution 9. Orientation of Staff | 1. To align all staff to the school’s vision, mission and values through staff orientation at the beginning of each academic session. 2. To orient the teachers on report writing, reading of rough drafts of students & subject profiles to ensure that they are well worded and comprehensive. Marketing and Branding of School | 1. Work towards increasing the visibility of the school in the country 2. Initiating the MYP newsletter and thereafter ensuring its timely release. 3. Student Management | 1. To guide and counsel in case of areas requiring YMPC’s intervention and handling student/parent relationships those are delicate in nature 2. To interact with the students and parents along with the counsellor on behavioral issues with always a firm belief in the potential of every student. Ensure that students receive counseling support in the advent of disregard of behavioral policy. Take action by issuing letters when necessary to uphold the behavioral policy. 3. Ensure that the Student Council is instituted and mentored properly and attend at least one-meeting per semester. |
Parent Forums and Meetings | 1. Uses care to determine how decisions, plans and other communication is shared with parents. Customizes response to meet their needs. 2. Organizing open house sessions and ensuring documentation of minutes of those sessions 3. All correspondence/SMS to parents and external stake holders to be approved by MYPC and signed by appropriate authority. 4. To go through the print run of the circulars or any other communication with the school community or parent community. 5. To orient new and existing parents to the school policies and curriculum. 6. Decision Making Boundaries
The MYPC takes decision on the following:
- Grievance redressals of the staff within the purview of the standard policies and practices of the school
- Takes decision pertaining to new initiatives in the school
- Recommends selection of the staff by being a part of the interview panel
- Setting collaboration culture in the school.
- Implementation of HR initiatives keeping in mind the needs and concerns of the school
- Identification of the training programs keeping in view the needs of the staff, IBMYP requirements and budget.
